UN SPTM Thread Mill
Tool Lookup
Single Profile Thread Mills (SPTM) are our most versatile and economic thread mills. They normally start at the bottom of the thread and are helically interpolated upward one pitch at a time. Each tool can cut internal and external threads and a variety of pitches. While their cycle times are often longer than multi-tooth thread mills, their low side cutting pressure is optimal for unfavorable length-to-diameter ratios. These tools are available uncoated, coated with AlTiN+ and ta-C, and come in various length-of-cut options.

Why can a smaller tool still be “Green”?
It can feel surprising that the largest thread mill (most break-resistant) may share a top recommendation with slightly smaller mills. The smaller option often provides more room for chip evacuation, can run higher RPM for a given SFM, and may be more versatile (it can cut a smaller internal thread size of the same pitch). Yellow can still run very well but may need a lower feed rate. Red is shown only to confirm whether an already-owned tool can produce the thread at all.
